42 Strong at LamLab!
Over the last 42 days, something interesting happened at LamLab.
Our clients didn’t suddenly learn new nutrition secrets or magical workouts.
But their consistency exploded.
We ran a challenge called 42 Strong - a 6-week (or 42-day) consistency challenge where our training app awarded every client 5 points whenever they completed a strength workout, cardio workout, checked off a daily lifestyle habit, and hit a calorie target within 10%. In addition, if they achieved a reasonable goal within that time frame, they would receive 100 points. To make scoring points easier, we introduced 3 free group progressively challenging cardio classes every week to all our members to come in and train together. This took most client’s training frequency from 2-3 times per week to 5-6 times per week.
The sign-up rules were simple. Members of our gym signed their name on the community whiteboard with one word that symbolized their personal key to success.
For example, my word was focus.
I have a bad habit of showing up to the gym with the intention of working out, but instead I start doing chores. The garbage hasn’t been changed. The washroom is out of toilet paper. The front lobby is dirty. The list of duties goes on, and suddenly it’s been an hour and my wife is wondering where I’ve skipped off to.
The tricky part is that the chores are real and urgent problems. And the weights I need to lift… are the ones I’m secretly dreading.
Focus is my word because I need to lock in on my workout and block the distractions. I can’t let procrastination win.
Each person’s reason for their word was unique. Most of my clients’ 100-point goals were to lose weight. Interestingly, the words that were selected were less about a number on the scale and more about an attitude.
I’m convinced that the majority of people already know what they need to do to lose weight. We all know the gap is taking action on it every single day.
Taking action isn’t so bad. It’s the every single day part that’s hard.
Each day that feeling of “let’s not do anything today” creeps its way back in. Self-doubt adds to the resistance. Reminding yourself of your one word should be powerful enough to shut that noise down.
The challenge officially ended on February 16th, 2026, and the results were awesome. Celebrating with clients and hearing what they achieved and overcame squeezed a small tear out of my eye.
Here are some of the reflections our clients shared in their check-in email:
What are you proud of during this challenge?
My friends and family noticed how toned my legs we’re.
My doctor said all my bloodwork numbers look great!
I tracked consistently and learned how to build a routine that works.
What did you struggle with?
Energy
Burnout
If you could go back and change the last 6 weeks, what would you have done differently?
I would have wished the challenge was longer but added a week where it was “easier” so I would be able to keep the progress going with less burn-out
I would have adjusted my goal (some said harder, some said easier)
Achieving your goals in a timely manner requires a high level of commitment, a clear vision and a sense of urgency.
From 42 Strong, we saw a major boost in consistency.
In the LamLab app:
Average workout compliance increased from 82% to 92%
Average nutrition compliance increased from 30% to 79%
Those in the top three hit their calories, completed their workouts, hit their step counts, and achieved their goals. The points represented effort.

What’s cool is that no matter where you were on the leaderboard, you gained some kind of benefit.
Because the leaders on that board were visibly changing week to week in their respective goals.
A client’s result to reduce their resting heart rate!
I’m proud of the clients who scored so high. To score that high, you had to log into your app everyday and track accurately and complete all your daily tasks. That takes sacrifice and adjusting your routine. New years is always a great time for that. With the insights gained, and new routines formed, it’s using that data to continue doing what’s working and more importantly, getting rid of what wasn’t. Anytime you break the status quo, that takes courage. It’s brave because you become vulnerable to failure and no one wants to fail.
What takes even more courage is the chance to succeed.
Success can be scary.
Success brings change. It can bring rejection. It breaks the status quo.
People might say, “You’ve changed.”
And they’re right.
The price of growth and success is that you start doing things differently, and you might not fit in where you used to.
But eventually, you’ll find new communities, people, and opportunities that are better suited for who you’re becoming.
The person you trained to be.
Don’t be afraid of success.
So what’s next after 42 Strong?
I hope our clients leverage this opportunity to propel themselves forward. Keep the streak going until they achieve their goal before pivoting to the next one. Continue the routine they’ve built and refine it to make it even better.
And I hope the word they chose stays top of mind as a reminder to do what’s important before doing what’s urgent.
42 Strong is a friendly competitive challenge that gave our clients the opportunity to be as consistent with their fitness and nutrition as a competitive elite athlete.
Everyone thinks elite athletes’ only job is to train. That’s true for major sports. But the reality for most elite athletes in non-major sports or leagues is that they often have full-time jobs to fund their dreams and support their families.
They are dads, moms, workers, students, executives, and business owners responding to their calling.
I challenge you to think of yourself the same way.
Think of yourself as an elite athlete on the rise.
Winning means achieving the goals you promised to yourself alongside your teammates and competition inside the gym.
